Dear Reader,
This comes to you a few days late because I was under the weather with the classic term-is-over-sun-is-out-now-go-to-bed bug. Despite that, it was an exciting week. Things are getting real! The proof of Double or Nothing landed on the doorsteps of book bloggers and reviewers wrapped in this special cover.
It’s been wonderful to see the reaction on Twitter and Instagram and I want to give a big shout out to Fleur Clarke and the design and marketing team at HarperCollins for putting this beauty together.
And a very early proof of my next literary novel, A Wild & True Relation, is beginning to appear in the world too. I’ll soon be revealing the cover and can’t wait to show you what Virago has come up with – it’s STUNNING. For now, here’s the lovely proof being read by the lovely Wyl Menmuir, whose new book The Draw of the Sea just came out.
Seeing the proofs sitting on a stranger’s kitchen table is a funny feeling, and although I experienced it with my first novel Testament, I still do a little double-take. Wait, that’s my book! How did it get there? Then there’s the nerves and excitement and hoping people enjoy it.
Similarly, I’m still shaking myself over the Waterstones special edition (which you can order using the button above, if you’d like). There will be three thousand signed copies featuring a sumptuous sprayed edge and an essay by me on the legacy of women in the world of James Bond.
