Dear Reader,
The headline this week is that tickets are now available for the launch of Double or Nothing on the 1st of September at the British Library, where I’ll be in conversation with Charlie Higson! There will be martinis, book signings and good chat. I’m thrilled to talk with Charlie about everything Bond and beyond. There are early bird tickets for £10 if you book before the 31st of July. Tickets are £13 after that with discounts for students and others. If you can’t make it to London, or you live outside the UK, you can also join via live stream.
I’m so excited to be launching the Double O trilogy at the British Library, easily in my top five favourite places in the world. As you might know, to gain a library card at the BL you have to prove you can only access the materials you need within their collection. I pleaded again and again as a teenager to be admitted through the hallowed double doors into the map room or the newspaper collection, but I had no reason beyond I’m a geek and I love learning so please let me in. Finally, when I was pursuing postgraduate studies, I could say, I’m writing my first novel and need access to primary sources in your collection so please let me in. This is literally how I celebrated my twenty-second birthday with my family, by dragging them to the British Library so I could register. When it looked like I might be rejected, my mother told the gentleman in charge that this was how I was choosing to celebrate my birthday. He took pity on me and I left brandishing my card like it was Willie Wonka’s golden ticket. And now I’m launching a novel expanding the James Bond universe at the British Library! Pinch me.
