Dear Reader,

I started girl with the golden pen as a way to build a community of readers beyond the character count of Twitter and I’ve been deeply moved and encouraged by the response. A huge, heartfelt thanks for all your support!
See you there
I have a couple of upcoming events that might be of interest for those of you in or near Kent and Devon.
On the 16th of February, I’m appearing at Faversham Literary Festival in conversation with Sarah Ogilvie, author of THE DICTIONARY PEOPLE, about A WILD & TRUE RELATION and writing history from the margins. This event is selling very well so if you’re keen to come, grab your tickets fast!
On the 2nd of March, I’ll be talking about A WILD & TRUE RELATION at East Gate Bookshop in beautiful Totnes. This will be a cosy event in the shop, and it’s well worth visiting Totnes for the day if you’ve never been. There are many locations from the novel, including the Guildhall, the estuary and the high street, as fiercely independent now as it was in the 18th century!
Flooding on the line
I’m writing to you from a train – quelle surprise – on my way to Moniack Mhor, the Scottish centre for creative writing nestled in the Highlands, where I’ll be teaching for the week. Except there’s flooding on the line and the very real train that I’m currently on has been listed as cancelled and all hell is breaking loose. We’re stranded somewhere in a field near Stirling, and it’s anyone’s guess what will happen next. I might just have to live here now, so if you want to cheer me up, you could order A WILD & TRUE RELATION in lovely paperback!
I’ll let you know if I ever reach Inverness…
