Dear Reader,
When I’m developing a character for a work of fiction, I often fill out what I call a “character questionnaire” — a set of questions that helps me develop the character’s appearance, interiority, back story and motives. I’ve come up with different questions over the years, and thought I’d share the latest version with you. So here’s 31 questions to interrogate your character!
If you’re a writer, or simply enjoy being creative, you might find this handy for growing any character that’s giving you trouble, or capturing your imagination, at the moment. You might even come up with a brand new character. You can answer all of the questions or only some. You can answer in short sentences or long paragraphs. You might like to reflect, or respond quickly. You can answer from the character’s perspective in first person, or about the character in third person. It’s totally up to you. See where your pen takes you. Enjoy!
This is the first creative writing tip I’m sharing with paid subscribers. Watch this space for more…
