Dear Reader,
If you’re new to girl with the golden pen, welcome! I’m so happy to have you here.
Readers who have been on this adventure with me for a while will know that I can’t drive, something that produced a good deal of laughter as I was announced as the new writer of James Bond. This has become so well known that journalists actually open interviews with me by saying: ‘It’s a famous fact about you that you can’t drive.’ I tell them I don’t think it’s a famous fact… And now it’s not even a true one.
I don't have a licence to kill. I don't even have a licence to drive. But as we gear up for the launch of A SPY LIKE ME in exactly ONE MONTH, Thruxton Racing let me get behind the wheel of 003’s car…
Watch this space for how I got on, and pre-order A SPY LIKE ME now to make sure you have it on launch day!
I can’t believe there’s just ONE MONTH to go! If you missed out on tickets for the London launch at Dukes Hotel, keep an eye on the 007GB socials as we’re hoping to release another batch. Or join me for martinis on May Day at the Scottish launch hosted by Toppings Bookshop in Edinburgh.
There will be plenty of events around the country too, with a couple just announced at Bath Festival, one with our very own Charlie Higson. Take a look at my website for more details.
As the launch grows closer, it’s been wonderful seeing so many new subscribers to girl with the golden pen, a reader-supported publication. There are three subscription tiers:
FREE: you receive 2 newsletters a month, offering a window into my writing life
PAYING £7 a month or £70 a year: you receive 2 newsletters a month with regular bonus content including a NEW FEATURE, videos on my creative process with creative writing tips! Plus complementary tickets to online events and socials. I’m planning an online social in early May, so watch this space.
FOUNDING MEMBER £150 a year: you receive all this plus signed proofs, first editions, merch & more!
If you’d like a UK or US proof, numbers are now extremely limited so sign up or upgrade to founding member now!
It’s also just two weeks until the third novel in the Double O series is due to be delivered to the publishers. I’ve reached the stage where I’m dreaming about scenes and lucidly wondering if I ought to edit them differently. Isn’t writing fun?
Paying subscribers of girl with the golden pen have full access to the past archive, so if you’d like to read about the last days of writing A SPY LIKE ME (i.e. the last time I went loopy) sign up and hit the button below.
The post also tells the story of our honeymoon, which I only remember now followed hot on the heels of delivering the manuscript. I find romance is only improved by stress-inducing deadlines, don’t you?
And for paying subscribers, read on below to hear about the prize-giving ceremony for the Winston Graham Historical Prize. I was honoured to have A WILD & TRUE RELATION on the shortlist next to novels by Jo Baker, Joanna Quinn, Sally Magnusson, Benjamin Myers and Alan Warner.
Now back to the desk for me…
